Screening Echocardiogram

A Heart With A Stethoscope Around It Representing Cardio Vascular Health

Maintaining your heart health starts with prevention! Getting regular exercise, eating a heart-healthy diet, and regularly seeing your doctor are essential.

At Preventative Diagnostic Center, you can also receive the full cardiovascular screening bundle for only $159.

What’s Included in the Cardiovascular Screening Bundle?

The cardiovascular screening bundle includes:

  •       A carotid artery ultrasound
  •       An abdominal aorta ultrasound
  •       Ankle-brachial index
  •       A 12-lead EKG

For $258, you can add an echocardiogram (an ultrasound of your heart) to the cardiovascular screening bundle, which will save you $31 on the echocardiogram.

All the following tests are non-invasive, and your results will be read by a board-certified radiologist.

Carotid Artery Ultrasound

A carotid artery with ultrasound screening is simply an ultrasound on the carotid arteries and the major blood vessels of the neck that supply blood to the brain. This screening test is used to assess if there are blockages that could potentially lead to a stroke.

Abdominal Aorta Screening

An abdominal aorta screening is an ultrasound for the abdominal aorta, which is a large artery that carries blood from your heart to your lower body. This test is used to check the health of your aorta since weakening and/or enlargement of this artery can cause it to rupture, if left untreated. If an abdominal aortic aneurysm ruptures, there is a mortality rate of 80 to 90%.

Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI)

An ankle-brachial index (ABI) test is a screening test that measures blood pressure between your legs and arms. This test is used to check for peripheral artery disease (PAD), which is a condition that causes narrowed or blocked arteries caused by plaque buildup in the arteries in your legs.

12-Lead Electrocardiogram (EKG)

A 12-lead EKG (electrocardiogram) is a test that records the heart’s electrical activity. This is done to check the heart’s rhythm for any abnormalities, such as atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Why Should You Have a Cardiovascular Screening?

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S.? This is why it is so vital to be proactive about your heart health and to take preventative measures.

Heart disease doesn’t discriminate; it affects everyone in every demographic to nearly the same degree. The top risk factors for heart disease are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking.

Other lifestyle factors or medical conditions that increase your risk of heart disease include:

  •       Diabetes
  •       Sedentary lifestyle
  •       A diet that’s unhealthy
  •       Being overweight or obese
  •       Excessive alcohol use

FAQ

This screening test is used to assess carotid artery and see if there are blockages that could potentially lead to a stroke.

The abdominal aorta ultrasound is used to check the health of your aorta. This is done because weakening and/or enlargement of this artery can cause it to rupture, if left untreated. If the aorta raptures, it is frequently lethal.

The ankle-brachial index (ABI) test measures the blood pressure in your legs (and sometimes your arms as well). This test is used to check for peripheral artery disease (PAD), which is a condition that causes narrowed or blocked arteries caused by plaque buildup in the arteries in your legs.

The 12-lead EKG is used to check the hearts’ rhythm for any abnormalities, such as atrial fibrillation (AFib).

You should expect to be taken to a private area for the non-invasive exam(s) you signed up for. The results will be recorded to be evaluated. You will receive a report shortly after your appointment.

How to prepare for your appointment:

  •       For the cardiovascular screening bundle, you will need to fast for eight to 12 hours before your appointment to get the best results on your abdominal aorta screening test.
  •       Avoid caffeine, tobacco, over-the-counter pain pills, and any other stimulants for at least four hours before your exam(s).
  •       Wear cozy, loose-fitting clothing.
  •       Avoid applying lotions or oils to the skin to avoid the EKG monitors not wanting to stick to you properly.
  • Consider leaving your jewelry at home to avoid it being in the way.

The exam will be performed by an ARDMS registered technician. Your results will be read by a board-certified radiologist and a board-certified cariologist.
